چکیده

Abstract. A global increase in the strength of hydrologic cycle drove an flux terrigenous sediments into ocean during Cenomanian–Turonian Oceanic Anoxic Event 2 (OAE2) and was important mechanism driving nutrient enrichment thus organic carbon burial. This change is primarily known from isotopic records, but average data do not tell us anything about changes at any particular location. Reconstructions local can help understand role regional shifts precipitation these trends. The proto-North Atlantic basin one epicenters enhanced burial OAE2, so constraining particularly this region; however, few records exist. Here, we present two new OAE2 Coastal Plain North Carolina, USA, recognized with calcareous nannoplankton biostratigraphy isotopes. We use / nitrogen ratios to constrain relative contribution marine terrestrial matter; both cores find elevated vascular plants beginning just before continuing through event, indicating a locally strengthened cycle. Terrigenous decreased brief isotope values as Plenus excursion; it then increased remained latter part OAE2. Total (TOC) reveal relatively low inner shelf, contrast black shales open ocean. Organic content on shelf appears offshore direction, highlighting need for middle outer shelf.

Energy and water balance of two contrasting loblolly pine plantations on the lower coastal plain of North Carolina, USA

During 2005–2007, we used the eddy covariance and associated hydrometric methods to construct energy and water budgets along a chronosequence of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) plantations that included a mid-rotation stand (LP) (i.e., 13–15 years old) and a recently established stand on a clearcut site (CC) (i.e., 4–6 years old) in Eastern North Carolina. Our central objective was to quantify the ...

Climate Variability and Its Impact on Forest Hydrology on South Carolina Coastal Plain, USA

Understanding the changes in hydrology of coastal forested wetlands induced by climate change is fundamental for developing strategies to sustain their functions and services. This study examined 60 years of climatic observations and 30 years of hydrological data, collected at the Santee Experimental Forest (SEF) in coastal South Carolina. We also applied a physically-based, distributed hydrolo...

Sensitivity analysis of the DRAINWAT model applied to an agricultural watershed in the lower coastal plain, North Carolina, USA

The DRAINWAT, DRAINmod for WATershed model, was selected for hydrological modelling to obtain water table depths and drainage outflows at Open Grounds Farm in Carteret County, North Carolina, USA. Six simulated storm events from the study period were compared with the measured data and analysed. Simulation results from the whole study period and selected rainfall events assured that the DRAINWA...

A conceptual hydrologic model for a forested Carolina bay depressional wetland on the Coastal Plain of South Carolina, USA

This paper describes how climate influences the hydrology of an ephemeral depressional wetland. Surface water and groundwater elevation data were collected for 7 years in a Coastal Plain watershed in South Carolina USA containing depressional wetlands, known as Carolina bays. Rainfall and temperature data were compared with water-table well and piezometer data in and around one wetland. Using t...

Planktonic Foraminifera of the Dariyan formation and implications of Oceanic Anoxic Event 1a

The investigated section cropping out in Kuh-e-Banesh, Zagros basin (southern Iran) is represented by limestone, Cherty beds and marllevels bearing abundant Planktonic foraminifers, radiolarian microfaunas, and ammonite imprints. For the first time, well to moderatelypreserved forms of Planktonic foraminifera have been extracted from black shale and marls levels. Extracted biota was studied wit...
